At a Glance: Your Migration Options
You can choose a single service or combine multiple services depending on your needs:
- Device Wiping & Re-Injection – Reuse supported devices by securely reconfiguring them for the NMI Gateway
- Device Recycling & Secure Destruction (ITAD) – Retire unsupported or end-of-life hardware securely
- Onsite Installation Services – Professional installation for complex or multi-device deployments
Option 1: Device Wiping & Re-Injection
Best For:
- Reusing existing deployed devices
- Migrating merchants to the NMI Gateway without replacing hardware
- Reducing device costs and environmental impact
- Hardware models currently supported by the NMI Gateway (e.g., Lane/3600)
Important: Please confirm with your NMI representative that your hardware model is supported before initiating this option.
What’s Included:
- Secure device wipe and factory reset
- Re-injection with NMI Gateway configuration (Cloud or Standard)
- Return shipment ready for redeployment
- Serial-number logging and tracking
How It Works:
- Submit a Device Migration Request through the NMI Support team.
- Provide key details:
- Device models and quantities
- Shipping origin and destination
- Configuration type (Cloud or Standard)
- Accessory requirements (power supplies, cables, etc.)
- A Return Authorization (RA) is issued.
- Devices are shipped to our fulfillment facility.
- Upon receipt:
- Devices are logged by serial number
- Securely wiped and factory reset
- Reconfigured for the NMI Gateway
- Devices are returned with tracking information.
Turnaround Time: Typically 3–5 business days after receipt.
When to Choose Another Option:
If your devices are unsupported or end-of-life, Device Recycling & Secure Destruction is recommended instead.
Option 2: Device Recycling & Secure Destruction (ITAD)
Securely retire outdated or unsupported payment hardware.
Best For:
- End-of-life or unsupported devices
- Reducing risk from unused or stored equipment
- Maintaining PCI-aligned data security practices
What’s Included:
- Secure serial-number logging
- Sanitization and destruction in a compliant facility
- Auditable handling process
How It Works:
- Submit a Recycling & Sanitization request via NMI Support.
- Receive a Return Authorization (RA).
- Ship devices to the secure facility.
- Upon receipt:
- Devices are logged and stored in a secure holding area
- Sanitized and destroyed according to ITAD best practices
Optional device collection services may be available upon request.
Option 3: Onsite Installation Services
Professional installation support for merchants who need hands-on assistance.
Best For:
- Multi-lane retail environments
- Countertop deployments
- Large rollouts (including 70+ device sites)
- Merchants requiring white-glove support
What’s Included:
- Professional installation by vetted technicians
- Device setup and testing
- Photo validation
- Project management and scheduling coordination
How It Works:
- Submit an onsite installation request through NMI Support, including:
- NMI order number
- Preferred installation window
- Onsite merchant contact
- A project manager confirms scheduling.
- Devices are shipped to the merchant location.
- Technicians install, validate, and document the setup onsite.
If device-to-gateway configuration is required, connection details (such as API Key) must be provided in advance.
Shipping, Timing & Service Considerations
- Shipping, insurance, and taxes are calculated based on quantity and destination.
- Shipments are insured when device value exceeds $100.
- Standard installation pricing includes:
- Up to 2 hours of labor
- Travel within a 60-mile radius
- Additional onsite time is billed hourly.
- Large deployments can be staffed with multiple technicians to complete installation in a single day.
- Cancellations within 48 hours or failed site access may incur a fee.
- Installation service charges are billed directly between the fulfillment partner and the NMI partner.
