Overview
This article will be a quick start guide for the Lane 3000, 3600, 5000, and 7000, as they are all similar devices. This will have information on connecting the device to the Internet, powering on the device, as well as registering the device to your merchant account. Included with your device should be a power adapter and a 3-way connector (Multipoint Interface Cable), which should have two cables that are already attached and a spot to plugin the power adapter.
The Lane devices are countertop payment terminals designed for card-present transactions, offering high security and durability, making them ideal for retail, medical, transportation, and more. They are supported by NMI's Customer Present Cloud API and the NMI Virtual Terminal. Please note that these devices are for indoor use only.
Step 1: Position the terminal
The device should be placed on a flat surface, wall, or customer stand near an electrical outlet and should also be within reach of your network's ethernet port.
Step 2: Connect the Multipoint Interface Cable
The underside of the device should have a Multipoint Port. Connect one end of the 3-way connector to this port.
Step 3: Connect device to the Internet
Next the device needs a stable Internet connection. Apart of the 3-way connector should be an ethernet cable. Connect this cable to an available ethernet port with open Internet access. This will need to be plugged into an active router, not a PC.
Step 4: Connect device to power outlet
The device needs its own power source and should have came with a power adapter to plug into an outlet. Plug the provided power adapter into the 3-way connector and then into a power outlet.
Step 5: Register the device
Once the device has been fully powered on and has been provide a stable network connection, the device will display both the device serial number and registration code. This registration code will then be used to register the device onto the platform. You have two options for registering your device: Manual registration through the NMI Merchant Portal, or API registration using the Customer Present Cloud API.
- Note that the registration code will rotate/change after a period of time.
- Ensure your device is for the correct platform, i.e. test devices for Test accounts and prod devices for Production accounts.
Manual registration
- Log in to your Merchant Portal: Access your NMI account online.
- Navigate to Registered Devices: Find this section under the License Manager (Options -> Settings -> License Manager).
-
Enter the registration details:
- Device Nickname: Choose a name to easily identify your device.
- Rotating Code: Enter the code displayed on your Lane device's screen.
- Complete registration: Your device will now be registered and visible in the "Registered POI Devices" list. It is now ready to perform EMV transactions with the Customer Present Cloud API or the NMI Virtual Terminal.
API registration
Visit the Developer Portal: For more advanced integration, consult the Customer Present Cloud documentation available in the NMI Developer Portal. This guide will provide detailed instructions on how to use the API for device registration.
Maintaining your device
Upon receipt of your device you should check for signs of tampering of the equipment. It is strongly advised that these checks are performed regularly after receipt. You should check, for example, that the keypad is firmly in place and that there is no evidence of unusual wires that have been connected to any parts of your terminal or associated equipment.
Follow these precautions to avoid any problems:
- Place the terminal away from any heat source.
- Protect from dust, vibrations, and electromagnetic radiations.
- Do not position over a PC.
- Do not position in close proximity to any magnetic fields or security tag deactivation systems.
- Regularly check your terminal for any signs of tampering.
- Do not use any other power supply. The power supply unit provided with your equipment is specially designed for this Ingenico terminal, and use of another power supply may damage your terminal.
